Why Are Women Underdiagnosed With Autism?
A study by Edge Hill University researchers reveals that a lack of understanding and gender bias hinders the identification of autistic females. Published in PLOS One, the study measured subconscious gender bias in autism perception among 300 participants. Participants in the study showed implicit biases associating autism with males, affecting the diagnosis and support for autistic females. The research underscores the need for change in identifying and assisting women and girls with autism.
