Exploring Spatial Biology
Spatial biology is the emerging field of investigating cells and tissues in the context of their environment. Researchers are now querying DNA, gene expression, and protein biomarkers within small sections of tissue and sometimes even single cells while maintaining information about cell locations. By exploring tissues in this fashion, scientists have uncovered significant and impactful cell heterogeneity and are using spatial biology techniques to unravel the complex biological processes occurring in brain tissue, cancer cells, immune system infiltration of tumors, and more.
There are several innovative techniques that take advantage of recent advances in high-resolution microscopy, automated microfluidics, and analysis of large amounts of data. The CellScape™ platform by Canopy Biosciences, featuring ChipCytometry™ technology, is at the forefront of spatial biology with an end-to-end solution for highly multiplexed protein imaging. ChipCytometry allows researchers to detect and quantify an unlimited number of biomarkers at single-cell resolution. Canopy also offers spatial biology CRO services for labs that do not yet have their own instrumentation or experience in this growing research area.
